Cisco Catalyst 6500 E-series Supervisor Engine VS-S2T-10G-XL is designed for enterprise backbone (Core/distribution) applications, WAN edging network, service provider networks and as well as data center deployment. Supervisor Engine VS-S2T-10G-XL processes high-scalability, hardware-enabled innovations in the areas of security, QoS, virtualization, and manageability, the rich feature set of this supervisor engine ensures to deliver advanced performance packet forwarding for layer 2 and layer 3 services to establish the leadership in borderless networks.

Cisco Catalyst Supervisor Engine VS-S2T-10G-XL is shipped with a factory installed PFC4 daughter card (VS-F6K-PFC4) and a factory installed MSFC5 daughter card (VS-F6K-MSFC5). The combination provides high-performance, scalability, Multilayer switching and routing intelligence. Multilayer Switch Feature Card 5 (MSFC5) builds with high-performance processor to run layer 2 and layer 3 protocols on the dual-core CPU complex. Integrated Policy Feature Card 4 (PFC4) is equipped with application-specific-integrated-circuits (ASIC) complex which allows hardware acceleration for software features to improve performance and scalability.*

Any two Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switch with this supervisor engine can be pooled together into VSS which enhances system bandwidth to 4–Terabit, supports for up to 1056 ports of 1Gbps and 352 ports of 10Gbps. The solution bring various advantages for enterprise network, such as increasing operational efficiency, boosting nonstop communication, doubling system bandwidth, using existing multilayer switching architecture, providing slot efficiency and improving resiliency.
