The iPad interface enables all transport functions (play, stop, and record) to be remotely controlled, as well as providing access to the BlackBox menu structure for changing settings. In addition to providing a remote control surface and highly accurate metering application for the BlackBox recorder, it can also be used for remotely controlling and editing BlackBox player playlists. Playlists stored on the player can be viewed and edited on the iPad interface as required, before being stored back on the player’s disk, offering an intuitive alternative for remote editing of show content. The iPad interface also provides a further option for triggering playlists during shows, theater performances, and themed entertainment.
The JoeCoRemote has been primarily developed to work wirelessly, via the hardware interface. However, it can also be connected to the interface by using a cable to provide wired connectivity for locations where multiple competing WiFi signals can create a congested environment.
TheĀ iXML License Upgrade for BlackBox RecorderĀ fromĀ JoeCoĀ adds iXML capability to your BlackBox Recorder. iXML is an open standard that was developed to simplify the transfer of recorded digital audio files through the post production process. It allows you to include location sound metadata in Broadcast WAV audio files, ensuring that important information which would have traditionally been written down does not get separated from the audio it pertains to. This includes data like Scene, Take, and Notes information, which can be logged during location sound recording and later used by editors in post production.
When the BlackBox Recorder is enabled for iXML, you can enter and edit typical iXML data fields via the system’s main menu. You can even connect a standard QWERTY keyboard (sold separately) to the recorder for fast data entry via keyboard shortcuts. The iXML menu offers 3 screens that help you to include a range of metadata, from project names down to notes about individual scenes and takes. The data you enter is then safely stored within your Broadcast WAV files to be recalled later.
The iXML upgrade also allows the BlackBox Recorder to remember multiple headphone monitor mixes that you’ve set up during the recording process. The monitor data is stored in the Default Mix section of the iXML chuck, making it easy to refer to an earlier recording that may have had different monitoring needs. You can also adjust the monitor mix via a standard MIDI controller.
